YEREVAN (A.W.)—After months of negotiations, the ARF Dashnaktsoutiun (ARF) and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) signed a “Political Cooperation Agreement” on Feb. 24, at the Armenian presidential palace in Yerevan. High-ranking officials from both parties attended the signing ceremony, including President Serzh Sargsyan and ARF Bureau Representative Hrant Markarian.
The agreement, which was signed by ARF Armenia Supreme Body Representative Aghvan Vardanyan and RPA Deputy Chair Armen Ashotyan, is comprised of three main headings that cover a wide array of issues the two parties will collaborate on. Most notably, the agreement highlights the fact that the ARF and the RPA will work closely to make the various aspects of Armenia’s new constitution a reality. The agreement also notes several internal and external issues the two parties will work together on, including social, national security, and economic issues, as well as educational initiatives.

Academic, anthropologist, writer Sibel Özbudun is charged in two separate cases, for items she shared in her Facebook page.

The first of the charges claims that Ms. Ozbudun is “openly inciting people to illegal and criminal action by sharing a picture depicting a person with covered face with something like a Molotov cocktail in his hand, with a background depicting a protest. Ms. Ozbudun has added a comment saying ‘let the regulation be yours; ours is the revolt!’. She also has shared a poem by Can Yucel (a famous Turkish poet), saying ‘I want the country be divided – benchmen, sycophants and nits to one side, honorable, good, laborious, patriotic people to the other,’ adding the comment ‘I want this country be divided’. Since the person in question is a retired academic having many students, and since masked people do now and then cause damage to the police, to public buildings and to cars using Molotovs, stones and sticks in the country; the act of the suspect is prone to cause immediate danger, and should be punished according to the article 214/1 and 53/1 of the Turkish penal code.” (The article 214/1 of Turkish penal code implies from 6 months to 5 years of imprisonment for those who openly incite people to criminal action; and 53/1 implies from prevention from public offices and deprivation of public rights.)

The second lawsuit charges Ms. Ozbudun to “make propaganda of the armed terrorist organization, PKK/KCK” in the photos she shared on her Facebook page and demands that she be punished according to the article 7/2 of the Law on Terrorism (which bans helping members of a terrorist organization and its propaganda) and 53/1 of TPC.

The first hearing of the first trial will be held on February 12th, 2016, at 9.00 A.M. at the 35th Criminal Court of first instance in Ankara, whereas the first hearing of the second trial will be held on April 20th, 2016 at 9.00 A.M. at 2nd High Criminal Court of Ankara.

A testament to the strength of the human spirit, Three Kisses of the Cobra is the action-packed story of a man who chooses to live a life of his design.

When the warden of the Armenian church in Singapore sends an e-mail to Nayri, a Lebanese-Armenian banker, offering fascinating details from her family’s roots and to connect her with a relative she’s never met and, she jumps at the opportunity to learn more about her history.
Set in the early nineteenth century, Three Kisses of the Cobra is the fictional account of the life of one of the first settlers in Singapore. A well-traveled Armenian trader from Isfahan, Persia, Vartan’s life is the stuff of legend. And, although overall, his journey is a happy one, it is, nonetheless, overshadowed by grief over his lost homeland – a pain shared by his present-day descendants, members of the Armenian diaspora.
A vivid cast of characters, both fictional and historical, contribute to a narrative of survival, hardship, and triumph – a testament to the strength and resilience of spirit it takes to leave everything you know to pursue a new life far from home.

The Cyprus Mail - By urging Turkish Cypriots to take a hard line, Ankara is flagrantly interfering in the negotiation process, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said, promoting its own interests that are not related to finding a viable solution to the island’s division.

Speaking during a weekly briefing on Thursday, Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ankara were not linked to finding a viable solution to the Cyprus problem.

“We’ve noticed recent publications in Turkish-Cypriot mass media, where the subject was on contacts of the delegation’s representatives from the [parliament] of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with the Turkish leadership, and with [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan in particular,” Zakharova was quoted as saying by Sputniknews. “According to the information in these materials, the Turkish leader is openly inciting Turkish Cypriots on a hard and uncompromising line during the continuing negotiations in Cyprus, including on the touchy issue of territorial differentiation.”

She said Ankara was “grossly interfering in the negotiations process and putting its own interests forward.”

The statement, first reported by daily Phileleftheros, was immediately welcomed by DIKO and EDEK.

DIKO spokeswoman Christiana Erotocritou said the Russian Ministry statement reflected the truth, “which the government wants to ignore,” regarding Turkey’s true intentions.

DIKO expressed this position repeatedly since the start of the negotiations “while until recently, others assured about Turkey’s supposed willingness to find a solution,” she said.

The party said it expected the government, ruling DISY, and AKEL, to welcome the Russian stance and stop providing Turkey with an alibi.

DIKO Chairman Nicolas Papadopoulos used Twitter to ask whether the government would welcome the Russian Foreign Ministry statement or “condemn it because it ruined the good climate.”

But there was no response when a couple of his followers pointed out that the Russian statement, as reported by Sputnik, had referred to the occupied areas as Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Usually, Greek Cypriot politicians are quick to condemn and chastise anyone who makes such references.

An official transcript of the statement was not immediately available. The Phileleftheros report did not include the reference.

EDEK went a step further in its statement, saying that President Nicos Anastasiades must finally realise that Russia’s involvement in the issues that concerned Cyprus would boost efforts towards a fair, viable and democratic solution.

“The fourth-plus generation frontline fighters and the Mi-8MT helicopter will be assembled by the airbase’s engineering staff and put into operation. The airbase’s pilots will start flight tests of the MiG-29 fighters in mid-March this year,” it said.
A modernized MiG-29S has also been delivered to the airbase.
