On Friday March 21, the Armenian populated city of Kesab in Syria became the target of attacks by armed bands that raided the Syrian territory after crossing the Turkish border. From the beginning of the attacks Sev Aghbyur village –a part of Kesab- was made a target; the surrounding hills of the village have been occupied. The Syrian army is trying to push back the offensive forces. Currently the clashes are still going on. The populations of Sev Aghbyur and of other areas that are in danger have been transferred to more secure places. There are reports of injuries.

KEY SUSPECT IN HRANT DINK MURDER RELEASED

Erhan Tuncel was one of the key names suspected of planning the murder of Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink. DHA photoHurriyet - A Turkish court released on March 7 a former informant accused of instigating the 2007 murder of Armenian Turkish journalist Hrant Dink.
The release of Erhan Tuncel was made possible by a change in the country’s anti-terrorism laws that reduced the maximum pre-trial detention period from 10 years to five years. The law was amended as part of a 22-article democratization package that was published in the Official Gazette after being approved by President Abdullah Gul.

TURKISH COURT FREES ALLEGED
KILLERS OF MISSIONARIES

ISTANBUL, TURKEY (BosNewsLife - By Stefan J. Bos) - A widow asked for prayers and rights activists expressed concern Saturday, May 8, after a Turkish court released suspects accused of torturing and murdering three Christian missionaries in 2007.
The five men walked free from their high-security prison in the eastern city of Malatya on Friday, March 7, because their time in detention while on trial exceeded new legal limits, local media reported.
They were allegedly involved in murdering German missionary Tilmann Geske and Turkish converts Necati Aydin and Uğur Yüksel, who had their throats slit in April 2007 after being tied up and interrogated by five young Muslims about missionary activities at the Christian 'Zirve Publishing House' in Malatya.
Under a new law passed by Turkish Parliament last month, the detention limit for suspects on trial who have not yet been convicted was lowered to five years, paving the way for the five accused to be released on bail.
Two of the suspects currently out on bail detained at the scene of the crime, while another jumped from a third-floor window in an attempt to escape and was arrested after receiving treatment for injuries, according to rights investigators.
Concerns that the suspects, who are facing possible life sentences, might attempt to leave the country once bailed have reportedly prompted lawyers for the victims to request they are fitted with electronic tagging devices upon their release.

"DEEPLY DISTURBING"
"It is deeply disturbing to hear that the five men responsible for these brutal murders have been freed on bail, including three who were arrested at the crime scene," said CSW's Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas.
"We urge the Turkish authorities to take every necessary measure to ensure they remain in the country to face justice, which has been exceedingly long in coming," he told BosNewsLife in a statement.
"This trial has been ongoing for six years with no indication of a conclusion in the near future."
He said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims, to whom the release of these men has dealt yet another blow, no doubt leaving them with a deepening sense of uncertainty as to whether they will ever see justice for their loved ones. For their sakes, the Turkish authorities must ensure that justice is served as a matter of urgency."

ARF DASHNAKTSOUTIUN'S OPERATION NEMESIS

93 years ago today, Mehmed Talaat Pasha 1874 – 15 March 1921), was assassinated in Berlin in 1921 by Soghomon Tehlirian, a survivor of the Armenian Genocide.
Talaat Pasha, when Interior Minister, ordered on 24 April 1915 the arrest of Armenian leaders in Istanbul and initiated the deportations and subsequent Genocide of the Ottoman Empire's Armenian population.
Operation Nemesis was the code-name for a covert operation in 1920s to assassinate the Turkish masterminds of the Armenian Genocide.
The secret operation was headed by Armen Garo, Aaron Sachaklian and Shahan Natalie.
After the end of World War I, the Ottoman military tribunal condemned to death the principal Young Turk leaders responsible for planning and execution of the Armenian Genocide. However, at the conclusion of the trials, the condemned were freed. They fled to European capitals living under assumed names.
In the early 1920s, Armenian Reveolutionary Federation Dashnaktsoutiun, at their 9th World Congress held in Yerevan approved a secret resolution called The Special Mission (Haduk Gordz) to punish the main perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide. Between 1920-1922 the perpetrators were located and assassinated by the Armenian avengers.
The condemned assassinated were:
► Fatali Khan Khoyski on June 19, 1920 in Tbilisi by Aram Yerganian
► Talat Pasha on March 15, 1921 in Berlin by Soghomon Tehlirian
► Bihbud Khan Jivanshir on July 18, 1921 in Constantinople by Misak Torlakian
► Said Halim Pasha on December 5, 1921 in Rome by Arshavir Shiragian
► Behaeddin Shakir on April 17, 1922 in Berlin by Aram Yerganian
► Jemal Azmi on April 17, 1922 in Berlin by Arshavir Shiragian
► Jemal Pasha on July 25, 1922 in Tbilisi by Stepan Dzaghigian
► Enver Pasha in 1922 in Tajikistan by Hagop Melkumov, an Armenian member of the Red Army.
